Still I figured I'd give it a go, only to forget about it and turn over just before the scene where Renwick explodes! Much to my suprise it made me laugh. It wasn't grotesque in the way League of Gentleman for example can be. It was just cheesy horror. I still wasn't sure about the show entirely. It's so unique and I only managed to catch a couple more eps. A few months later though I was searching the net and managed to get hold of Skipper, The Eye Child. I watched it to death and eventually got hold of all the other eps since which time It's become one of my favourite all time shows.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Switch625)Wed, 25 Oct 2006 13:02:24 +0000 Re: Recent Convert/how did you get into Darkplace?https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679128,from=rss#post1679128https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679128,from=rss#post1679128Just to reiterate, I realised pretty much straight away that it was a spoof: that's what inspired me to search for the DVD in the first place. "One Track Lover" is really dangerous to listen to when driving by the way.nondisclosed_email@example.com (tryinfrared)Tue, 24 Oct 2006 14:23:39 +0000 Re: Recent Convert/how did you get into Darkplace?https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679126,from=rss#post1679126https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679126,from=rss#post1679126Well i watched Matt Holness on The Office as the computer geek and thought he was funny... then saw an advert on TV about his "new" show Darkplace and then i watched the first episode and basically it went on from there. I just became obsessed and got angry when people said they hadn't seen it before nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lingwo)Tue, 24 Oct 2006 12:43:52 +0000 Re: Recent Convert/how did you get into Darkplace?https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679125,from=rss#post1679125https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679125,from=rss#post1679125I caught it right from the beginning after seeing about 2 adverts for it late at night. I thought it was gonna be a different horror story every week for some reason. After the first episode my best mate texted me saying "Please tell me you watched Darkplace?! Comic gold!" Managed to tape half of the Skipper episode, Apes of Wrath (on a portible ariel so the quality was absolutely shocking) and Scotch Mist, which we watched over and over again. Then about 6 months later my mate found episode one on Limewire and we watched it download for literally about a week. When it was downloaded we watched it about 15 times in one day. From then on in we were uber-obsessed. Eventually found all the episodes on eMule and we were good to go!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Ornsack)Tue, 24 Oct 2006 12:39:48 +0000 Re: Recent Convert/how did you get into Darkplace?https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679124,from=rss#post1679124https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679124,from=rss#post1679124I caught it right from the beginning after seeing about 2 adverts for it late at night. Should be: Actors Real Name - Character Name - Darkplace Character Matthew Holness - Garth Marenghi - Dr Rick Dagless Richard Ayoade - Dean Learner - Thornton Reed Matt Berry - Todd Rivers - Dr Lucien Sanchez Alice Lowe - Madeleine Wool - Dr Liz Asher I watched it on SBS here in Australia and loved it. For as long as I can remember SBS has shown South Park at 8.30pm and then shown another comedy afterwards like Boosh, Dave Chappelle, Crank Yankers, etc. I seem to remember that a voice over before the show explained that it was a spoof of 80's medical drama so I watched with interest. After I witnessed Renwick explode and the hillarious argument that goes on afterwards I knew I had an instant favourite. The night Skipper was on I was going out so I taped it and then later forced everyone to watch it. Shortly after I bought a bootleg and after that it was usually played at least once a week in our house. That or Boosh which we also became obsessed with... I now own the official DVD and laughed and cried through all the the special features. Now it's stuck in my DVD player though (See curse of darkplace thread) so I've been forced to take a break for a few days...nondisclosed_email@example.com (LovelyChicken)Mon, 23 Oct 2006 22:56:15 +0000 Re: Recent Convert/how did you get into Darkplace?https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679119,from=rss#post1679119https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679119,from=rss#post1679119it was first aired in 2004, and really made around that time, its suppose to have first been aired in the 80s, and the actors talk about there masterpiece present time, it is a bit confusing to a first time viewer! if you listen to the commentry on the dvd, you will hear how the actors stay in charactor and call each other todd, garth and dean! it wouldnt be that funny if they did it as themselves, it still gives the show an certain bit of mystique that would have definatly have gone if they did narration as themselves, well to me anyway! begginers guide! (real name) - (actors name) - (darkplace) matt holness - garth marenghi - rik dagless richard ayoade - thorten reed - dean learner matt berry - lucian sanchez - todd rivers hope that makes sense!nondisclosed_email@example.com (rodd tivers3rd)Mon, 23 Oct 2006 22:27:01 +0000 Recent Convert/how did you get into Darkplace?https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679118,from=rss#post1679118https://bsavedarkplace.runboard.com/p1679118,from=rss#post1679118So I am a recent convert to this show, having seen an advert for the DVD on the sci-fi channel. Slight confusion ensued as I wasn't sure if it was a spoof, given the fact that the show was "shot in the 80's" and the "interviews" in 2004, and none of the actors had aged a bit in 20 years. Anyway, ordered the DVD and am well impressed with the sheer stupidness and cheese factor. I especially love seeing the old channel four logo, which I remember was around when I was in primary school. key moments: random floating stationary, "Skipper", Garth's excerpts from his novels, the slo-mo and general crappy sets with obvious strings and wires. oh, and the HUGE mobile phones! Also, as a Scottish person, I really am confounded by "Scotch Mist".??? anyway, how did everyone else get into darkplace? nondisclosed_email@example.com (tryinfrared)Mon, 23 Oct 2006 22:11:52 +0000
