Romford?

I was wondering, why is it always about Romford?
I mean, i know it's over exagerated, then again it does seem like a portal to hell there, but, why Romford?
Granted it's cool, cos i'm there, but is there a major reason?

I guess it's just an ordinary town with a ordinary name, so the audience can be scared.. cos it could just as easily be THEIR town sitting on a portal to hell.

One of them is probably from the area too, maybe.

More importantly, is there a large Odeon cinema there? Begging for Sanchez statue?

I do believe the large Odeon cinema closed down years ago and is now a nightclub called "time and envy" which features many ponces.

If I was on Romford council Id have that place pulled down and build a 100ft Todd Rivers statue in its place, in recognition of his services to acting and for putting Romford on the map.

It not just Romford, you get the occasional reference to Leystonbstone in one of Garth's books. Presumably it's where the Garth character came from (ie East London/Essex area) so his book and TV output references the area "The character" knows best.

That and the fact I'm from Romford so it's nice to be mentioned on the telly.

Romford as far as I remember, is the home of six time world snooker champion Steve Davis. It doesn't get any more interesting than that!

Not sure if he was actually from Romford but the snooker club was famous in the 80's as it's where he would come to practice.

Was that a Mitchell and Webb reference?

I always thought Davis' nickname was "The Nugget"

Apart from that period were he ws sponsored by a fastfood chain when he was briefly "McNugget"

Re: Romford?

When I met Garth and Todd and Dean at Virgin, I asked this exact question -

"Why did you set the story in Romford? Why Romford?"

Garth shrugged, and struggled to answer. There was a dramatic silence.

Then Todd said "Cos it's !@#$."

Garth smiled and agreed!

lol, so officially, I guess that's the reason!
