"You and he were buddies, we'ren't you. Need I say more."

I don't understand why Todd Rivers says this in the commentary at the end of the last episode. I get it's a reference to the first episode regarding Garth's exploding friend, but why does he say it here?

There might be other reasons Sanchez said this in episode 6. Out of nostalgic fondness for Garth (a genuine buddy) when reminiscing about that series of Darkplace, for example.
