To build or not to build... aye, that is the question

March 28, 2010 at 8:00pm

I have fun with all types of puzzles and when I find a good puzzle I really like to work at it. I suppose this shows up on the RBBT and RDS side the most since the first was my puzzle solution to really nice Runboard services that were in danger of going away like the ]Runboard Chat and the ]RunSearch Engine (the last actually led to all the RDS competitions being born). Lately though my love for the puzzles concerning Runboard ]Skin design is in withdrawal mode. I know Thor and Lesigner Girl are doing tons of things that will make Runboard better but until the changes are made live for everyone it leaves folks like me and Joshin Josh in a lurch. I want to make new skins but don't really dare because I don't know how the new Runboard system will work. I also want to expand the original idea behind one of my "real" boards to include all aspects of the actual design process but once again I find myself stumped because there is no way to know what that process will be. Quite a puzzle yes? Now some puzzles don't really have a answer for them but my "skin design withdrawal" demanded some kind of answer just to keep me on the learning track when it comes to CSS and HTML.

So I built ]this board as a way for me to continue both learning and helping others on Runboard Designs. "But wait a minute Pastor, didn't you just say you couldn't do that?" you might say, and yes I did say that designing "total skins" would be a waste right now. On the other hand though, no matter how much Runboard changes there will still be CSS and HTML areas we can work with soooo... I am working at the design of tools that a message board uses such as a real RunSearch engine box and a calendar and such. This way I keep learning which helps me to help others and my puzzle solving addiction with coding is somewhat satisfied for now. --Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

Comments and Community

March 20, 2010 at 3:34am

With the ability for others to make comments directly to our Runboard blogs we now have what I would call a standard blogging system which is much nicer than it was before where the blog simply acted as a journal for our thoughts. This is a nice thing I think, especially since we can turn comments on and off so when the mood strikes we can still do the "editorial" style posts.

Of course being the type of person I am I would like to see more (such as a small "custom CSS and HTML" panel so I could style my blog) but this is a nice format I can live with. --Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

The question now becomes how to use the blog so that others can find a related community to my posts. I want to do this because I want to promote the Message board side of the Runboard system and not have things separated so that there are two almost totally unrelated Runboard systems. After thinking about it I have decided to put in a "Community Comments Link" which will take a person to the community where my blog post subject is being talked about. For example, this post deals with the growth of the blog system so when you click on the button for this blog entry it will take you to "The Neutral Zone" where we have been talking about this in a Runboard Community Message Board. If the blog was dealing with a RDS issue you might find yourself transported to "The Runboard Directory" and if the blog was Bible related you would find yourself at "It's The Bible."

When CSS room is added...

March 18, 2010 at 5:38am

Recently Runboard increased the size of allowable "hosted CSS" for all boards. After thinking about it for about a week I decided to "un-pack" the CSS that had been scrunched together on some of the boards I own and/or have admin access to. Let me tell you, it is a real pleasure to be able to read the CSS now without using a sheet of paper pushed on the screen to make sure I don't miss a comma or semi-colon while coding a "live" board.

Many thanks to Thor for making the coding a much more pleasant experience by giving all of us a little room to spread out. *grin*

I was looking to see what I could do to help Runboard this morning and it occured to me that while Runboard has added a "Link to this post" feature we had no ]free graphic image created for those that want to save space or decorate their links! Sooo... I created this image --Log in or sign up to see linked image content-- and have placed it with the images hosted by [sign in to see URL] #post241873]in this post.

Comments to a Blog

March 5, 2010 at 4:26am

Being able to post a blog entry is really cool and the new format created by Runboard is slick but it is missing the the ability to post comments about a blog which has been made which limits things a little bit... or does it? This blog is a test of an idea given to me by Mo. Since BB-Codes work in a blog let us try creating a "comments" link to one of the boards I admin and see how that works...

To start we create the topic for responses on the message board then copy the reply link url. In my test that url is: [sign in to see URL]|pleasedo=followup

Now using a graphic image found on [sign in to see URL] I create the reply link like so:

|pleasedo=followup][img][sign in to see URL][/img]

To see if this works click on the "comments" button below and see if a reply can be made...

|pleasedo=followup]--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

Now this works but what if I want two options? IE:
A option to view the comments first by going to the message board the comments are on.
And a option to make replies directly (as in the above example).

Simple, we use two buttons found on the [sign in to see URL] and code it like this:

][img][sign in to see URL][/img]

|pleasedo=followup][img][sign in to see URL][/img]

If you run the codes together then the "buttons" will appear side by side as I have it below...

Oh yes, if someone has a better set of "button" graphics than the ones currently on [sign in to see URL] I will gladly replace the current set with yours. --Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

Personal bio

I was called into the ministry back in 1971 and have been active in the preaching and teaching Gods message to man ever since. In 2005 I discovered Runboard while in search of a free message board site. After looking at the other options I chose Runboard as the best option for my ministry because I could really change everything to match my website. This led to RBBT.Net as a 3rd party supporter for Runboard and the RunSearch engine led to the RDS promotions and now my major hobby is all things Runboard related.
